I'm a crazy goat lady who got into making my own soap with goat milk, found MMS to order supplies, and now I get to combine my love of creating skin care products with a job to pay the feed bill. I live in Alaska and greatly enjoy the unique aspects of my northern home - summer days when it never gets dark and the Northern Lights dancing above in winter. Favorite scents include Wild Mint and Ivy, Rhubarb & Sugar Cane, and Eucalyptus Spearmint.
I am determined to get this soap to turn out the way I envision it! So here we go again. If you missed the first part of this sage, check out Take 1. The first thing I did was reformulate my recipe. I went with the go-to recipe that doesn’t […]
Ultramarine Blue is such a bright and lovely color. I’m excited to make a soap that combines this blue pigment with the delectable scent of Blueberry Bliss Fragrance Oil. I have a random soap mold in my collection that has dots in rows at the bottom (which becomes the top […]
I have a dream of someday installing a full body soaking tub in my bathroom. There’s nothing quite so relaxing as soaking in hot, scented water clear up to your neck, especially when you have a good book to enjoy. February 9 is Read in the Bathtub Day. What a […]
Today is Chopstick Day, and I had to interrupt Katy’s Foot Maintenance Week with this fun soap. After all, what else would a soaper do with chopsticks but make swirled soap? Part of my inspiration for this soap came from the discovery of my old wooden slab mold when I […]
You gotta love a day dedicated to cake! In our February creative prompts (on the back page of our newsletter, which is sent out with all orders), February 3 is Carrot Cake Day. Why not bake a carrot cake? Yesterday I juiced carrots to make carrot juice soap for Marmot […]
February 2 is Marmot Day. You thought it was Groundhog Day? Well, it is! Groundhogs are just one of 14 species of marmot. And what do marmots have to do with soap? Follow me for a minute. Marmots are usually vegetarians. And on a day to recognize a vegetarian animal, […]
Don’t panic! No one has to disrobe! (Whew! It’s kinda cold for that nonsense in Alaska in February!) Instead, let’s work on making naked products. My idea for today is to leave out extras like scents and colors while we just focus on skin-loving goodness in soap and lotion. Before […]
In November, we started doing something fun, but if you have not placed an order since then, you don’t know about it. We have revived our monthly newsletter, and we are sending a copy with every order that leaves our warehouse. The fun comes with a list of creative prompts […]
I’ve had lots of fun making all of the comparison recipes with Shea Butter and Sal Butter. My last project for this series was to make soap. Since my normal soap recipe contains multiple luxury oils, I went back to the basics and used our 6-5-4-1 recipe guide. This recipe […]
Yesterday, I thought that my first comparison batches of body butter were too greasy. With my opinions in hand, I turned to our trusty technical support team for formulation assistance and advice. (Our tech support folks are great at helping!) After discussing my original formula as well as what I […]
Creating a light lotion with these two different butters made me wonder how much more prevalent these two butters would be in a creamier mixture. I took my recipe for the lotion I’d made before and tweaked it to get more viscosity. The first thing I did was to reduce […]
My favorite lip balms always contain Shea Butter, so I was eager to compare Shea and Sal Butter in a lip balm. I used the Make Your Own Lip Balm as a starting guide for my comparison formulation. I’ve kept the basic bones of the guide and adjusted for ingredients […]
