Luscious Lotion With Emu Oil & Lanolin 2

Recently I made a lip balm using Lanolin and Emu Oil. I called it Luscious Lip Balm because it truly is!

Finished lotion on my palm.

After using it for a couple of weeks, I decided the combination of oils might be wonderful in lotion, too.

To create the lotion formula, I used all the oils from the lip balm formula, but I left out the beeswax. Instead, I added water, plus a preservative, and some fragrance oil. (You get bonus points if you figure out at this point what I forgot to add! LOL!)

Join me in my workroom as I make a batch of what I hope will be Luscious Lotion!

instructions

Weigh all ingredients but preservative and fragrance in a microwave-safe container or double boiler. Heat gently, stirring often, until all ingredients are liquified.

Use a stick blender to mix well, then allow the mixture to cool below 120ºF. At that point, add preservative and fragrance. Stir well to combine, then pour into bottles.

Ingredients before melting.

Pouring lotion into bottles.

Notes

I nearly failed right out of the gate! When I wrote this formula (admittedly at the end of a pretty long day), I forgot to include Emulsifying Wax. I realized the lack after I’d already weighed and melted my oils and water. Oops! Back to the starting gate. Then, as the new mixture was cooling, I realized I’d left out a humectant. (Face palm!) I decided not to go back to the drawing board, but if you’d like to add a humectant to this formula, I’d recommend 3% Glycerin or Hydrovance, and remove 1% from Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, and Hemp Oil to keep your formula at 100%.

Now to try the lotion I’ve made!

OH! This turned out nice! It rubs in readily without any greasy residue. The Lavender Flowers fragrance is subtle but very nice.

If you’re looking for a quick, simple lotion recipe that hits the bullseye, this one may be it!

Hello, Denise! Would there be a way to incorporate goat milk into this recipe? If so, how would you recommend doing so? Thanks, and lovely recipe!

We do not recommend using milk instead of water unless you make the lotion fresh every few days and refrigerate what you have not used. Unfortunately, milk is very difficult to preserve alone and preserving a lotion with milk in it is just as hard. We recommend using milk proteins to make a milk lotion rather than adding milk.
