One of the best parts of Christmas is all of the delicious treats that come out during Christmas time. Peppermint candies, candy canes, and home made toffee are a few of my favorites. This last Christmas was the first time I ever made my own home made toffee. After 4 failed attempts I finally got it down and now I will never go without toffee again. Argh! Now moving on to something so easy there is no way you could possibly mess them up. These Candy Cane Bath Salts have been featured on our blog before and they are so cute I had to share them again. These are the perfect go to Christmas present. You will look like a pro.

Q.S. in this recipe stands for quantity sufficient. Which means you should add as much as you would like to reach the color you desire. I had a little bit of a hard time trying to get this red color. I kept adding color but I swear it was never going to turn red! So I went to my trusty advisor Taylor and she told me that I needed to add some Citric Acid and the color should turn out. I added maybe about a tablespoon of Citric Acid and started mixing. I was so surprised by how the color just started to change, and in the end I ended up with a beautiful red color.
To make these Candy Cane Bath Salt I weighed 25 ounces of Epsom Salt into one bag and 25 ounces of Epsom salt into the other bag. I added 4 mL of Peppermint Essential Oil to each bag. Set one bag aside and leave it as is, then color the other bag red.
Now there is a technique to make these bath salts swirl and look like a candy cane. Andee came up with this brilliant idea, it may seem hard at first but once you get the directions down it is so easy. Start by making two paper tubes that are approximately 3/4 inch in diameter, use the tape to keep them from popping open. Next I made a funnel that would easily fit on the tubes I made. Put the two tubes inside the bath salt tubes. Using your home made funnel fill one tube with the red salt and fill the other tube with the white salt. Now with one hand, hold the bath salt tube in place. With the other hand your going to grab the two paper tubes and lift up slowly. Now as you are lifting up twist the bath salt tube. You will be amazed by how easy it is and how amazing it turns out. Then just cap, label and enjoy!
