I love the cooling sensation of cucumber. I find it particularly soothing in the heat of summer. We are very familiar with putting slices of cucumbers on our eyes but we can use the on the rest of our skin too!
I find the best way is to juice the cucumber and wither treat the juice as a toner or add it to clay to form a mud mask. Cucumbers contain silica, ascorbic acid, sulfur, vitamins and plenty of water. Cucumbers are also reputed to reduce puffiness, reduce dark circles around the eyes and reduce the visibility of freckles! Wow! Isn’t that amazing? Hmm, I am thinking about mixing up a mud mask with cucumber juice and crushed mint leaves for a cooling sensation. What does a cucumber inspire you to whip up? |
Now I have a purpose for all those extra cucumbers in the garden.
I think I might join you! Cucumbers are still inexpensive here and I want to enjoy them before they are gone.
My mom used to save cucumber peels when cooking and before putting them in the compost, take them to the bathroom and rub down her face with them. As a little girl I used to watch her at first, and then joined in. I have used cucumber for my face for many, many years, but nothing can come close to the memory of that first refreshing sensation and feeling beautiful.
What a wonderful memory! Thank you for sharing!
Also, if you ever figure out how to get your hands on some dried and powdered cucumber . . . I want some! Not sure if it actually exists, but one can always dream.
I’ve never seen it but it could be quite fun. Do you think using the juice would be most effective?
I use puréed cucumber as some/all of the liquid in cold process soap- it’s great!
That sounds like a great soap!
