Deb emailed in asking for help formulating a mint lip balm that is tingly when she applies it. Let’s take a look at her cupboard and see what we can do for her!
Deb has Shea Butter, Castor Oil, Olive Oil, Palm Oil, Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, Hemp Seed Oil and Beeswax. In her formulation, we will use, Shea Butter, Castor Oil, Coconut Oil, Hemp Seed Oil and Beeswax. This lip balm is firm with a smooth glide. Wow, Deb, you are in for a treat! This recipe will fill 100 tubes. Recipe:
Weigh all of the oils into a microwave container. Heat gently until liquid. Pour into lip balm tubes or jars. Deb, for a strong mint flavor, I would start with a 0.7% usage rate of the Peppermint Essential Oil. Enjoy! |
Wow, that was FAST!! Thanks for the help! I’ll try it this afternoon if I get a few more things done (if not today, hopefully tomorrow), and see how tingly it is!! 🙂
minty lips – one of my favourites! 🙂
I got some made today and it’s wonderful!!! Your estimate for the peppermint was perfect, it’s VERY refreshing on my lips!! LOL I do want to mention it made 50 tubes, not 100 but I don’t know if you were meaning a different size tube or not…not sure if there are other sizes. (yes I’m new to lip balm, but loving it!!) :-)) Thank you so much for your help, it made it so easy for me to whip some out, out of what I usually have on hand, which is great cause it saved me the time of trying to figure out what would be best to use. I can’t seem to find time to do everything I need to, so this helped a lot! 🙂
I am so glad I was able to help. You are right. That batch would make 50 tubes. Sorry, I am doing the new math. Lol. 😉
I am also glad that the Peppermint was spot on. Yay! It makes my day when I formulate just what people are looking for!
Best,
Taylor
if I were to use menthol crystals, at what percent should I use it in lip balms?
I think I would try 1/10th of 1 percent.
