I have felt so bad for Andee since she sprained her ankle. She hobbles around here doing what she can without her ankle paining her. 🙁 I decided to make a menthol cream to give her some relief. This butter also makes a great way to start spring. I wanted a butter that would hold its shape well in the jar but could easily and gently be rubbed into the skin. A gentle massage really helps ease muscle tension. The menthol in the butter is extremely light. This butter will not force anyone to pick it up with a nine foot pole. (Not even Mr. Grinch.) I didn’t want such a strong cooling affect that would compel the wearer to wash it off their skin. Instead, I wanted a product that would make anyone willing to use, even if they are not part of the Mint Fan Club. Let’s head to the kitchen to make this Spring Relief Menthol Butter.

Recipe:
Weigh everything except the Menthol Crystals into a microwave safe container. Heat gently until liquid. Add Menthol Crystals. Stir occasionally as the mixture cools down. When the mixture is cool, cream the oils together as you would cream butter and sugar together. Scoop the mixture into containers and enjoy! |
I got this sample of this in the mail today! And am in love with it. I was suprise with how firm it was until it came in contact with your skin. Honestly at first I didn’t like it. I seemed too greasy. But after really massaging it in and allowing it to asorb into the skin I was amazed with how soft and silky it left my skin. So with that said I will most definitely be trying this recipe.
Does this need a preservative in it for selling? And if so would optiphen work? That is what I have on hand.
Also could I sub the olive butter with shea or mango? I dont have olive butter just yet.
No. This does not need a preservative for personal use. You don’t have any water. You can save your preservative for when you need it. For selling, I would use a preservative just for peace of mind. You never know what people do with the finished product at home!
Shea or Mango Butter would work just fine in this recipe. Hope you have a blast!
