A Few MORE of My Favorite Things 1

It’s been a bit longer than the tomorrow I promised when I wrote the first half of this blog, but here we are again with some more of my favorite things.

Today I’m focusing on fixed oils. These are the raw ingredients that make our formulations so wonderful.

Coffee Butter tops my list of favorite fixed oils for a lot of reasons, but I have to admit the natural coffee smell is tops among them. This butter smells incredible – just like a delicious cup of fresh-brewed coffee! Coffee Butter is a delightful combination of Soybean Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, and Coffee Seed Oil. It performs beautifully in all applications, and its wonderful smell carries through into most products. My only disappointment is that it doesn’t make soap smell like coffee; probably because I treat it like a luxury oil and use a small percent.

Oat Oil is a fabulous luxury oil that really performs in leave-on skincare formulations. It’s a staple in my personal lotion formula, and I often add it to lip balms. Oat Oil is rich in oleic and linoleic fatty acids along with antioxidants, glycolipids, and high levels of ceramides. Ceramides are a long chain of lipid molecules that are praised for their moisture-retention capabilities. Did you know that 50% of the human skin is composed of ceramides? That means it loves Oat Oil!

Lanolin is another of those luxury oils that has a permanent place on my list of favorites and in my personal lotion formula. I love how it helps provide resistance to water, which can dry hands. A little bit of this animal oil goes a long way, so usage rates are typically quite low.

Shea Butter is a staple in skin care. Our Handcrafted Shea Butter takes that staple to the next level by providing an important income opportunity for village women in Africa. I love that we can support women who have little opportunity to earn meaningful income! The best part is that the Handcrafted Shea Butter they produce is some of the best I’ve had the pleasure of using! Read more about this amazing product and how it comes to our warehouse in the product description linked above.

We introduced Turmeric Butter in 2019, and I have loved having it in my cupboard! I’ve used it most extensively in lotions because it’s made up of so many wonderful things: Shea Butter, Palm Butter, Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil, Turmeric Root Extract, and Bisabolol. It’s almost like a pre-made base for lotions! Bisabolol is one of the terpenes in German Chamomile that is noted for being anti-inflammatory. That’s a perfect complement to turmeric’s properties. Isn’t science great to give us so many ways to care for skin, our body’s largest organ? I’ve made a super lotion using just Turmeric Butter as the only fixed oil. Give it a try and I promise you’ll love it!

To wrap up this list of some of my favorite things, I’ll take a slight jog out of the fixed oils and into our pre-made bases. Tangerine Lip Solutions is my favorite variety of our incredible lip balm bases because it combines the bright orange color and citrusy scent of tangerines with a lip-loving balm. Helpful hint: all our Lip Solutions make a fabulous base for skin salves and balms as well!
