Yesterday we learned about Emu Oil and its fatty acid profile. Today I’m going to craft a lotion recipe featuring this oil.
Naturally, I’ll start with Emu Oil. The properties it will bring to the lotion are moisturizing and restoring the skin’s barrier function. It also will help with preventing trans-epidermal water loss and will penetrate the skin’s barrier.
Come along to the workroom as I work with this interesting oil.

Instructions
Weigh water, Emu Oil, Hydrovance, and Emulsifying Wax into a microwave-safe container. Heat, using short time bursts, stirring after each heating, until mixture is liquid.
Use a stick blender to mix the ingredients into an emulsion. Check the temperature. Allow the mixture to cool below 120ºF before adding temperature-sensitive ingredients.
Once the mixture has cooled, stir in Vitamin E Natural, Liquid Germall Plus, and fragrance. Mix well, and pour into bottles. Allow the lotion to cool completely before adding caps and labels to your bottles. Enjoy!
Notes
This is a very fluid lotion that takes some time to work into your skin. It leaves behind a slightly greasy feel, but much less than some other formulations I’ve encountered. My skin feels very well hydrated after using this Emu Oil Lotion.
This lotion is a perfect one to use with our high viscosity pumps!
After a few hours, I noticed my hands still felt moisturized and I did not need to reapply lotion as I usually do several times a day. Emu Oil has staying power!
I love the light spicy scent of Ancient Oudwood Fragrance Oil in this lotion. It covers the slight odor the Emu Oil has and is a treat for the senses!
