Weighing Waxes

Weighing Waxes

Weigh everything except the Vitamin E Acetate, Blackberry Pomegranate Flavor Oil and Ruby Lip Balm Color into a microwave safe container. Heat in short spurts until everything is almost melted. Stir the lip balm until the waxes have fully melted. This method helps prevent super heating your lip balm.

Once everything has melted, add the Vitamin E Acetate and Blackberry Pomegranate Flavor Oil. If you want the finished lip balm to have a pink color, add a little of the Ruby Lip Balm Color. (I would say I used a large pin heads worth of color.) If you want to see what it looks like, try the plate test!

    Hello!

Thank you for this recipe, it looks lip-smackingly good!
I was wondering, what ingredients would I need to modify or change to turn this recipe from being a gloss into more of a balm, please?

      Anna,

If you are wanting more of a balm, I would replace the Semi-Solid Shea Oil with High Melt Point Shea Butter. The Shea Butter melts at a higher temperature, leaving a less glossy appearance.

Sounds really nice. I have everything but the shea oil. Is there another oil or butter that can be used instead?

      Cynthia,

What do you have on hand? I would try things like Castor Oil, Mango Butter, Sweet Almond Oil and Macadamia Nut Oil. Even making part of it Lanolin would make a nice lip gloss. Think like 5% Lanolin.

      I hope this helps!

This looks yummy. Thanks, Taylor! I have everything on hand, including the pomegranate flavor oil & the colorant, but I don’t have the waxes:
    8.5% Candelilla Wax
    7.5% Carnauba Wax
    Can I sub 16% beeswax?
