Tina’s Lanolin Butter 4

Do you know anyone that has rough and chapped hands or feet? Every winter, I can guarantee if I don’t take care of my hands, they will become so rough that I’m more likely to have my hands catch on jackets and that always HURTS! I love this formulation as a bedtime ritual for healing my hands. I simply rub the butter over my hands, then cover my hands with cotton gloves (or socks) and sleep. It is amazing how much softer my hands feel the next morning. This method also works on feet!

Bourbon Geranium Essential Oil
Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil

Recipe: (Makes 8 fl oz)

Recipe in grams
112 grams Lanolin
56 grams Shea Butter, Refined
31 grams Colorless Jojoba Oil
5 grams Vitamin E Acetate
50 grams Liquid Glycerin
5 grams Conditioning Emulsifier
15 drops Bourbon Geranium Essential Oil
10 drops Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil
Recipe in ounces
3.95 ounces Lanolin
1.98 ounces Shea Butter, Refined
1.09 ounces Colorless Jojoba Oil
0.18 ounces Vitamin E Acetate
1.76 ounces Liquid Glycerin
0.18 ounces Conditioning Emulsifier
15 drops Bourbon Geranium Essential Oil
10 drops Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil

Weigh all ingredients except the essential oils into the microwave safe container. Microwave using short bursts of time. Stir after each burst to help melt the Lanolin without making the temperatures too hot. It took my batch a total of 2 minutes in the microwave with stirring every 45 seconds or so. The glycerin will become hot quickly and since it settles to the bottom of your container, the bottom will not be a place to hold until all ingredients have been mixed together thoroughly. Add the essential oils and stir until the mixture has cooled sufficiently to pour into your desired containers.

Notes:
If your Lanolin is very stiff and hard to get out of the container, feel free to microwave it for about 30 to 45 seconds to warm the Lanolin enough to scoop it easily.

About Andee

Director of Happiness. I'm a thirty-something soap snob. I've grown up with handmade soaps, and I love them! I really like making lotions, soaps, and perfumes. I adore mixing scents to come up with something new. My favorite scent is either Wicked or Cotton Candy. I tend to hoard fragrances, I even have an Earl Grey Tea from the MMS catalog. I won't tell you how old it is, but it sure is good!

    Hi Andee!
Should I include a preservative because of the glycerin? I never used glycerine before and I can’t remember if it is a water based or oil based ingredient!
    thanks,
    Jacinthe

      Jacinthe,
We do recommend using a preservative if you will not know the users of the product. We recommend using either Liquid Germall Plus or Optiphen as the preservative because of the high oil content of this butter.

After applying it once a day for a week, you will not believe how quickly your hands will soften. This butter is my favorite! 🙂
