While the name may sound unfamiliar, the scent is not. Litsea Cubeba has a sharp and tangy smell like lemon, only sweeter, with floral undertones. The essential oil is steam distilled from the fruit of an evergreen shrub that grows in Southeast Asia. Common names are may (mei) chang and mountain pepper.
Litsea Cubeba’s scent is refreshing and uplifting, and it blends well with many other scents. Litsea provides top to middle notes. Try blending with lavender, rosemary, rose, petitgrain, citrus, ylang ylang, sandalwood, frankincense, geranium, and vetiver.
Citrus scents are wonderful aromatherapy, and Litsea adds a great element. Here are a few aromatherapy blends that you could try in a diffuser or on a sachet in your vehicle. These blend ideas would also make nice scent blends for lotion.
- Citronella, Clementine, Lime, Litsea Cubeba, and Pink Grapefruit
- Balsam Peru, Litsea Cubeba, Siberian Fir
- Bourbon Geranium, Litsea Cubeba, and Natural Vanilla
- Lavender, Rose, and Litsea Cubeba
