There are a million and one reasons why you might be interested in making your own lotions, lip balms, soaps, perfumes, bath fizzies, foot soaks and all the other products that are part of personal care. Maybe you started on this journey due to allergies or you were looking for a way to save money. Perhaps you had a friend introduce you to the craft. I cannot possibly list all the factors that got you into this magical hobby.
Whatever the reason you are here, welcome. Ask questions. Send in ideas. We are your support/cheerleading team. Our team has over 20 years of crafting and teaching experience. Whatever you are planing to make, let us help you find the perfect recipe.
As the holidays approach there are a few things we cannot stress or recommend enough. If you want to be able to have consistent products every single time, we highly recommend getting a scale. Often a kitchen scale will work perfectly but the things you will be making and the size of your batches can change your scale needs drastically. For lip balm, we recommend getting a scale with 0.1 gram readability. For large batches of soap, we recommend a large capacity scale. If you want to do a little of everything, I highly recommend our 6100 Newton Compact Scale. This little scale is a powerhouse. I use it for all of my baking and crafting needs. Wow!
Another thing we recommend is a good workbook/notebook. Taking good notes is critical to duplicating a recipe or pinpointing a problem lot. If you already have a good system, cudodos to you! It can be hard to develop a good system then make it a habit. If you are having trouble keeping good notes, I have something that just may help. I have the perfect way to help keep track of recipes, dates and even those pesky lot numbers! I have a handy little sheet that you can print out and use to keep track of all of your notes!
To give a little jumpstart to keeping your world organized, we are hosting a little giveaway! This giveaway includes a binder filled with blank sheets waiting to be filled out, two MMS pens and a soap mold! Wow! That is one awesome box. I have even better news! We will be choosing five winners. Just comment here on the blog telling us why you want to win. We will choose our winners on Thursday, November 12th. Be sure to enter!
Necessities for Making Bath and Body Products and a Giveaway!,
Have always wanted a soap mold so this would be great to have
Soap molds are always fun! I love how you can change them out to suit
your soaping needs!
It is not so much the winning, although that is always fun. I started my love for all things natural back in 1995. I took a class on making lotion. From there it has branched into several lines of great body products. I learned soon to keep scrupulous notes. I also take pictures which are very helpful. When I win a contest, I make a note of what I submitted and to whom. I keep a journal of everything. I used to go to the HSMG conferences, and those were valuable. I read and study and learn from others. I also teach. Winning is always fun and MMS constantly gives away such fun stuff. I have never been disappointed in anything from them. I am anxious to sell our Idaho home and find one in utah to move into. Until then, I am collecting, planning, and impatiently waiting, lol.
Wow! Sounds like you have an awesome system. Great notes are worth their weight in gold!
I want to win because I am new to making soap. 🙂
Sally,
Welcome to the fun! I think this set up is great because you will get off to
right start. Yeah!
I feel like I already have won! I’ll definitely be printing up some of these little sheets because my current method is a bit archaic. I’ve three folders and recipe books from swaps that are all scribbled and scratched in, plus random bits of paper notes stuck all up in them 0_o I also have not tracked lot numbers, I can see how that would be helpful 🙂 Thank you!
April,
I am so glad that this will help! Here is to organization and
great notes. Cheers!
Wow, I could really use that!
Karen,
They are so awesome. I want one tailored for each of my hobbies!
I have several books with notes but no real organization just a modge podge of different recipes for different products all mixed into books. I need help to find a recipe and then no notes about results etc. thank you for the sheet I will be printing some off in an attempt to start organizing
Eliane,
Oh my gosh! That is how I feel! I have the notes… somewhere.
The hard part is just finding them. I think you will find this
to be a big help.
I would like to win because I’m just starting my business, and this would help me tremendously.
Pamela,
I love things that simplify my life. I think you will love these
work pages too!
This would be a great way to kickstart the gift giving season!
Judith,
We thought so too!
This would be a great way to kickoff the gift giving season!
I think so too!
This sounds great. I have a bad habit of scribbling notes on bits and pieces and scratch paper, and then either lose it or cobble things together later.
Jennifer,
This system is a big help! I have a smattering of Post Its all over the place!
This book helps me keep track much better. 🙂
I love all your products. I would love to win because I need to be a better note taker so this would be perfect. Thanks Tammy
Tammy,
I hear you. It can be a challenge to take good notes. Hopefully this
will put you on the right track!
I am an organizational freak. I started my love of creating back in 1995. I learned to keep scrupulous notes and took pictures. I studied, created, and attended conferences. I am constantly learning and loving it. I have several volumes of recipes that I have collected over the years. I have everything organized but I am always improving upon my methods. I always keep a pen and paper at my side while I am experimenting. I can always use MMS goodies. They always have the most fun contests. I can’t wait until we move and I can begin to create again!
Cindy,
I envy your organizational skills! That has always been a fight
for me! I hope you can craft soon!
WOW, I think this is an awesome package. I love making a little of every thing to give as gifts to friends and family. I would love to expand to selling my creations and a way to keep notes in one place would be crucial. I keep a lot in my laptop but don’t always get it updated when I make small changes to a recipe. This can be very disappointing when I don’t remember what I did the last time.
Denise,
I so hear you. Sometimes those little changes make such a huge difference! I am excited about these pages too!
Taylor
I would love to win – my record keeping definitely needs a kick in the pants and this sounds like a good way to get it going again!
Brandi,
Let’s see if we can’t help with that!
Love your oils and recipe ideas! You guys have great customer service and my packages always arrive perfect–I can tell you take a lot of care in packaging orders, thank you! I want to win because MMS is a great company with great products!
Yay! We always love to hear that we are doing a good job. Getting your package to you in excellent condition is one of our main goals.
Cheers!
I would love to have a consistent way of keeping track of my recipes, notes, etc. Your notebook sounds perfect. I’ve never actually tried a soap mold before – so that would be fun. And your new designs are so cute! My dirty dog, Baby (an 85 lb. black shepherd), is just the dog to try it out! Thanks for hosting this awesome give away, Taylor!
Oh, Baby sounds so cute! Maybe she can help you keep track of your notes! 😉
I am very unorganized right now. I’ve got sticky notes all over and trying to keep track of them and getting them taped in my notebook. I think a binder would work better. I’m also starting to do soaps. My first bars were set in a cut cereal box! Molds would be awesome!
Billie,
I know it. It can be so easy to say “I’ll file that later.” or “I correct the recipe in a little while.”. I find it is
just too easy to forget. These worksheets have been a great help to me!
Thanks for sharing the project sheet, it will com in handy. Love your blog.
Yay! I am so glad you like the project sheet! I hope it will help keep things running smoothly.
Love the worksheet you made Taylor. Such a simple idea that makes so much sense to organize your process.
I would love to win just to get me in the process of using the worksheet in the binder.
Sarah,
Thanks! I am glad you like to worksheet! I really love it.
I take notes, but haven’t been this detailed yet – but I can see the value in it.
Count me in! 🙂
Kelly,
I love how this sheet makes it easier to retrace all of your steps. It is ultra helpful, particularly when something doesn’t work right!
You can now find the source of the problem!
