Patriotic Blue Blooming Bath Oil

Weighing Sesame Seed Oil

Weighing Sesame Seed Oil

Next week is Pioneer Day and I’m still in the mode of RED, WHITE and BLUE celebrations! I love bath or shower oils. I love the way my skin feels afterward: soft, silky and conditioned. They are also an excellent way to perfume your body and your bathroom. One other thing I like about blooming bath oils is how incredibly easy they are to make. Join me in the kitchen, you will be astonished by how simple these wonderful products are to make.

Adding Oil Soluble Color to Oil

Adding Oil Soluble Color to Oil

To start, you need to choose a liquid oil. I decided to use Sesame Oil. Sesame Oil is light, smooth, creamy and rich in nutrients. I like it to use in bath/ shower oils because the thin coating left on your skin feels like you just finished with a massage. Isn’t that delectable?

Second, you need Polysorbate. You can use either Polysorbate 80 or Polysorbate 20. Polysorbate 80 will contribute bubbles and foam where Polysorbate 20 will not.

The third and fourth ingredients are optional. Fragrance Oil and color. I like to have the whole shebang so I will be using both, however they are not requirements.

If you are going to use it in the tub then I recommend adding while, or just after you finish, drawing your bath. Add anywhere from 1/8 of a cup to 1/4 of a cup per bath.

If you are going to use it in the shower then I recommend use near the end of your shower by drizzling into your palm and rubbing over your skin. Rinse off the excess. This can be a great time saver if you have no time to put on lotion after your shower. This is a particular favorite of mine while on vacation. It is a space and time saver!
