Do you sing in the shower? Some days I don’t and some days I do. When I do sing, I generally have music playing which, let me be honest, is most showers. 🙂 I got thinking about the song,It’s Raining Men by The Weather Girls, after the wind blew all of the dirt and particulate into the air during the weekend. I told my parents “Instead of It’s Raining Men, it should be It’s Raining Mud! I think the original version is a fun song and easy to sing along. After listening to the song, I got thinking about… you guessed it, soap! What kind of soap would you be inspired to make from this song?
I have two soap ideas that just came to mind. The first soap would be a plain white bar scented with Hydrogen. Next, I would make a soap scented with Emmett. I think a fresh-from-the-shower-man smells very sexy.
Tell me about other songs you like that are soap inspiring. I want to know! Should we put a note on each fragrance for a suggested “Shower Song” so you can belt out a few tunes each morning?
OK…beginner here. Besides the process, what is the difference between hot and cold press soaps. Is it just a personal preference thing or are the properties different? Thanks for taking time to answer this
Hot process adds heat during the mixing time frame to force the gel
phase to happen
in the pot.
Cold process adds heat before mixing and the gel phase happens in the mold.
This is the simplest way to describe.
While it is a personal preference on what on choose, there are some key
things I would
like to point out:
Hot process claims you can use the soap tomorrow. You can do this with
cold process
too, the curing time just allows the extra water to evaporate.
Hot process claims you can use small molds where that can’t happen with
cold process.
Well… cold process can use small molds (we just supply some heat from
a slow and
gentle source while in the mold).
Cold process can stall in the mold, this will never happen with hot process.
Hot process does have an issue with being cosmetically challenged.
Because it is scooped
into the mold the soap doesn’t look as smooth or as refined as a cold
process soap.
Hot process needs more of your undivided attention than cold process.
So… if you have all the time in the world and don’t mind a soap that
is a bit chunky appearing
then hot process may be your wonderful soap process. If you are time
limited and need a smooth,
consistent bar each time then cold process is for you ONLY if you are
willing to monitor temperatures
to make sure the soap is on the best path it can be.
My preference is cold process because I don’t have time to babysit a
soap batch before
pouring in the mold. I can watch the process of my soap and get it to
the perfect state without
a lot of work or time. I prefer a bar that wears evenly in the shower so
I like the cold process
better.
