I don’t know about you, but I find soap making addictive. Despite all of my failures, distractions and learning experiences, I still love it . I do get strange requests for types of soap and additives. Some times they are animal, vegetable, mineral, or spiritual. Tell us about the strangest things you have ever been requested to do.
To submit your story, drop me a note telling me that you want to enter and I will give you the details for sending in your story and any pictures that may be useful. Now don’t be shy about sharing your story. I will be giving away gift certificates, teas, samples and more! Each participant will receive something. I can’t wait to see all of the submissions. Good luck and I hope to hear your strange soap story soon! |
I was asked to make soap with cola in it, and with a cola fragrance. I would like to enter your contest.

Last year one of our friends gave us a Christmas present of Doe Urine and asked us to make Doe Pee Soap. We haven’t made it yet, I don’t want our molds to smell like deer pee! I think we are going to attempt it this year though since hunting season is well on its way.
Hi Taylor!
How ironic that you wrote this post yesterday! I just received a “kit” from my sister in law on Oct 1st. She has to keep up her credits every year so she thought about taking a soap making class – easy she thought! Anyway, she bought a “kit” from the teacher after the 2 day class ended, thinking she could/would make the soap at home and maybe get into selling soaps later down the road. Her life is too full so she put the “kit” to the side to give to me when she was in town.
Anyway — here’s what’s in the “kit”:
16 oz Coconut Oil – no idea if it’s 76* or 92*
16 oz Palm Oil
6.5 oz Lye
Fragrances in kit:
1 dram Clary Sage EO
3 – 1 dram bottles of Rain Kissed Leaves FO (herbaceous scent)
1 dram Sweet Orange EO
1/2 oz Lavender EO (doesn’t say which Lavender it is)
When I saw the “kit” I didn’t have access to a computer, but my first question was:
Are you sure she didn’t tell you to add another oil to this “kit”? Like maybe Olive Oil? She claims this was the whole kit, she left her class notes at home. Even without access to MMS’s Lye Calculator, I knew this was lye heavy. I couldn’t wait to get home to calculate it – sure enough, it is! A few days later I received all of her notes from this class, and guess what? Oh yes! “Add 13.5 oz of Olive Oil to your “kit”!!” That made me feel good that I knew something was WAY off about this “kit”!!
The one thing that really bothers me is 35% Coconut and 35% Palm. I don’t like it.
And then the fragrances? Sounds so odd to me, plus it’s not enough for a 45.5 oz formula in my opinion! Another thing that really, really bothers me is that I think this teacher uses volume instead of weight…. scary! Both bottles are filled to just below the neck. Plus did this teacher melt and stir all of her Palm before pouring it into the bottle?
This formula just doesn’t sound good to me – but how do I tell my SIL my thoughts without hurting her feelings?
Well, there you have it! Any help would REALLY be appreciated! I guess I could make my own soap and let her think I used her “kit”??? But then, what do I do with these tiny little bottles of FO’s & EO’s…??? She’s expecting these to be mixed together and smell like — what??!!! LOL!
Thank you ;o)
Kathy
I was also asked to put deer urine in soap (for hunters and it stinks something fierce). I also have some other wierd things that people have requested or asked about. I would like to enter the contest as well. cindy
