Thank You for Your Support! 15

Dear Friends,

I have decided to close Majestic Mountain Sage, Inc.

I started MMS in 1996, and here we are in 2025. Unbelievable! Let me cover a few things that will happen as we wind down our operations.

1. You will NOT be abandoned. Many folks have purchased our bases, fragrance oils, and other products. We will make sure your larger purchases are not forgotten.

2. I have opted not to sell the company to a venture capital group. Our customers and friends are in a unique niche market and need personal attention. A company cannot serve its customers with focused care and serve the stockholders at the same time. You have entrusted us to handle your information carefully, and I do not believe a venture capital group cares more about your data than I do.

3. Any product currently on backorder will be processed according to your wishes. If we can provide you with product, you will get it. We have committed purchase orders for materials as long ago as November 2024 and still do not have expected times of arrival for those materials. Each of our vendors will be given the final delivery dates, and we will work with them or cancel our purchase orders. Some of you may opt for refunds; others may wait to see if the materials become available. We will do what is best for you.

4. We have seen many ups and downs in the market. Remember the panic of Y2K? Or the rush on sprayers for the 2000s avian flu? Remember the housing market/bank collapse? H1N1? You might even remember when our Lip Balm Kits made for Martha by Mail were more than $1 million on backorder due to a jar that had 12 weeks of lead time. Every year has hurdles, and we get through them together.

5. We have also seen changes in your lives. New babies, deaths, marriages, divorces, location changes, and more. You have touched our lives, and we know our lives have touched you. A part of me finds this letter surreal, and another part notes I have worked in this job for 30 years. I need a few changes in my life to improve my physical and mental health. I may come back to our industry as an advisor, or I may remain retired, but right now, I don’t know what will happen in the future.

6. When? We are expecting at the end of June. You can find updates through our website. We will need to be out of our building by July 31. We have a lot to move between now and then.

This is a heavy message and one I have toiled to make. I love how much you have blessed our lives and am eternally grateful. You may write to us, and it may take a while to respond, but if you need our help, we will try our best.

Thank you,

About Tina

I started thesage.com in 1996 with the help of my husband. Now I get to help people make all kinds of soaps and bath and body products. I think my favorite things to make are lip balms and lotions/creams. Of course I get most of the soap technical support questions because that is my strong knowledge area. Glad this blog is here!

    Hi Tina,
I started buying from you in about 1998. You were the first soap supplier I used and I’m still here after all these years. I think it is mostly because of the things you said in your letter–I trust you to provide me with excellent products at a fair price and I trust you to be honest. I trust that you do actually care about being a reputable company who is partial to its customers.
I have wondered many times how you juggle it all. I know it’s not easy to balance home and family and a growing business, AND take care of yourself too. I decided many years I didn’t have whatever it would take to do it, even though starting my own small business was constantly on my mind. That’s why I chose to make my wonderful soap, but provide it for only a very small number of family and friends.

This is all to say that I understand how hard your decision is, and I’m glad for you. I think you made the right decision. Best wishes and the Lord’s blessing to you and your family! Thank you so much for what you have done to help so many of us for so long.

    Take care,
    Sandie G.

      Sandie,
I love you. This has been a hard decision and I keep doubting myself. I am trying to juggle everything and feel like I am failing. I received so many kind comments that I cry daily. The messages are so kind, just like yours. Thank you for taking the time to write, your time is the most precious thing you own. I am so grateful!

Tina I found out the news today. Though I may have contributed to some stress as well during times of uncertainty in this soap world and how expensive things have gotten to upset customers who didn’t get their order in 3 days. It def takes a lot out on u! I really loved the prices and feel of the goats milk lotion and really sad as I don’t want to buy from any other place !
I really don’t want your company to go away!!! I will order as much as I can when u get the goats milk lotion back.
I appreciate u and hope a miracle happens and u stay!
    Hugs

    Hi Tina,

I’m sorry to hear you are closing down. I am rekindling my interest in making liquid soap, and returned to your lye calculator today. I have tears in my eyes as I’m typing this note. I started making soap in 2005 and you were a wealth of information in my budding new hobby that sang to my heart.

Sending you a HUGE hug filled with MANY thank you’s….

Wishing you much contentment, health & success in your next adventures.

    All the best,

    Christine H.

Dear Tina, and the crew who supports you, Congratulations on your success over the past decades.
Don’t want to see you close. My heart goes out to you & your team. understand. Not many of the products used to make our unique soaps come from the U.S. Makes it out of reach for small business.
Thank you for your support for us. Hope you keep your lye calculator online.

And if don’t absolutely have to leave, stay in it

Sad to see you go. Bittersweet. I started my first soaps in 1999. Cranberry Lane and MMS were pretty much the only sites I found at that time to buy from. I relied on your lye calculator. I sold at farmers market and co-op from 2011-2015. Then had to move and stopped selling at that point. I only make for myself and family now. Whatever will I do without your calculators? We all must make changes in our lives. I often wonder how much longer I will be able to garden, cook and make soaps. I wish you the best in your next phase of life.

I started buying from you in 1999 as Daisycakes Soap. I value you and your products and am glad to have a chance to place a final order. My business wouldn’t have been what it was without you. Thank you for years of great products. Cheers.

    Hi Tina,
Hard decisions are just that – hard. I’m sorry you had to make this decision. I hope it turns out to be the best for you and yours.
After buying from you for over 22 years, I’m sorry to see you go. You have truly been my favorite supplier all these years. And what fun it was to have met you in 2013 at the Central Soapers Workshop in Kansas City. 🙂

Do you have any suggestions for a replacement supplier primarily ESSENTIAL OILS and FRAGRANCE OILS? For my soap making business, that will be where the biggest hole will be in your absence.
    Best wishes and God speed.
    Teddi

I feel like I found you by accident and I just started to make my soaps when I found your Cucumber Aloe. I love it so much. Yesterday I was taking a shower and the soap I was using brought me back to why I want to do this. This soap was the first scent I ever used.. Where can we find the fragrance oils that you used to sell? Is there anyone else selling them?

I’m so sad to read your post! I’ve ordered your products in the past and by chance, while driving thru Nibley saw your business on my GPS. Are you still open and selling products? We are coming to Nibley for a family reunion and I was hoping to find info on your site if you offer classes but sad to see your are closing. Best wishes for your future plans. I would love to stop by your warehouse if it is still open.

Hello, and GOD bless you. I will miss you so much. I am a small, handcrafted hair care product maker. I’m not sure when I first stumbled across your business, but I fell in love with some of your fragrances that were hard to find elsewhere. I finally started selling on Amazon and was about to order the larger bottles of my favorites, but I discovered that they’re all sold out and that you guys are closing. Your Juicy Pear and Eucalyptus Spearmint are second to none. You will be missed. If you have any recommendations that are still in stock, similar to these, I would love to know. Thank you

I have been in and out of making lotions and lip balms over the years. I have just placed an order to teach my eight year old granddaughter how to make lip balms with me. She lost her 6 year old sister two months ago and I am hoping this is a hobby we can do together that gives us both a break from the grief from time to time. Will you continue to post the recipes?? I have always relied on your recipes. Or is there a way to download the recipes for my future reference?? I wish you happiness, but your business will definitely be missed. Life is full of hard choices, but your happiness and the people around you are the most important.

    Kim
