Lanolin Hand Scrub

Lanolin is a wonderful substance! It comes from the fleece of sheep and is what makes them naturally waterproof. It is also an amazing emollient properties and helps reduce trans-epidermal water loss.

My aim with this scrub is to give your hands some extreme TLC and provide protection from the elements at the same time.

First on the list of ingredients is Lanolin, but the usage rate is pretty low. It does not take a great deal of Lanolin to have a great effect on the skin. I think 10% ought to give this scrub the moisturizing and waterproofing I’m looking for.

Next we have Aloe Butter, which is a blend of Coconut Oil and Aloe Extract. I chose this butter because Coconut Oil is well known for its moisturizing properties, and it contains ferulic acid, which is a polyphenol that is an effective antioxidant. What does this mean? Oils containing ferulic acid (others are Rice Bran Oil and Borage Oil) can prevent skin aging. It penetrates to soften and moisturize, soothes wind chapped and sun burned skin, and reduces itching and inflammation. This is great news for our hands, which can take the brunt of exposure to the elements.

Avocado Oil rounds out our selection of oils for this scrub. It’s a high oleic acid oil with up to 75-80% of this dynamic fatty acid. Oils high in oleic acid contain lots of vitamins to benefit the skin as well as properties which are great for sunburned or wind chapped hands.

I’m using superfine sugar in this scrub so it will be gentle. (Run regular sugar through a food processor until it resembles fine sand.) It can be used all over the body, but with the higher amount of Coconut Oil in the Aloe Butter, I’d avoid using this scrub on the face, as Coconut Oil can clog pores.

Finally, I’ll scent this scrub with Alice Fragrance OIl. Alice is a bright and light fragrance that won’t overwhelm.

Join me in the workroom as we craft what I’m sure will be a wonderful hand and body scrub!

Notes

WOW! This scrub is the ultimate!

There’s a well-known cosmetics company that has a hand scrub kit that I thought was the only thing that would ever make my hands feel so soft and smooth. I was wrong! This Lanolin Hand Scrub is even better, because it leaves my hands nearly waterproof!

This would make a wonderful quick gift idea with Christmas right around the corner.
