Answering phones mean I get to talk to people from all over the place. I absolutely love it! Recently Rhonda called asking for some help with a recipe for her very dry skin. Rhonda lives in such a dry climate that it common for her skin to dry so much it cracks and bleeds! Yikes! Rhonda really needs something that is an intense moisture holder.
I had considered using the Greatest Lanolin Butter Recipe, but after talking with Rhonda, we decided that something that was a little stiffer and less sticky would be best for her. I deceided to use the Greatest Lanolin Butter Recipe as a leaping off point instead.
I reduced the percentages of my major sticky components; lanolin and glycerin. I added Soy Wax to make the butter a little stiffer and Isopropyl Myristate to give a drier emoliency to the formula. Come join us for a tremendous recipe for severely dry skin!

Weigh everything except the Liquid Germall Plus and Vitamin E Natural into a microwave safe container. (If you are having a hard time measuring the lanolin, feel free to heat it slightly in the microwave. It is easier to measure when it is softer and more scoopable.) Heat gently until everything has melted. Stir until the mixture has been mixed thoroughly. Add the Liquid Germall Plus and Vitamin E Natural.
If you are going to be adding any fragrance or essential oils, this would be the time to do it. Pour the butter into desired containers. I highly recommend using jars for this recipe. It is too difficult to get out of bottles. Trust me, I know.
Allow the mixture to cool. Do not worry if it takes a while to solidify. This is to be considered normal. Cap and label. Enjoy!
Notes: I really was surprised with the finished product. I was a little worried it would be too stiff and too tacky. It is just perfect. I have applied a little to the back of my hand. It does not feel heavy or greasy. It also has great staying power. I am in love! Rhonda will be trying this recipe, and a few others, to determine what her skin likes the most.

I don’t use preservative in my balms or salves. No water = no preservative necessary.
I don’t use glycerin — it wicks water from the air; if there is no water in the air, as is the case in Colorado’s dry climate, it wicks water from the skin. YIKES!
TIPS on using lanolin:
Have you ever tried it straight for feet?
Lanolin USP (pharmaceutical grade) is great for soothing cracked nipples for nursing mothers.
Also, I use anise EO to fragrance — just enough to neutralize the odor of lanolin.
For my Tootsie TLC, I cheat! LOL I use MMS Lanolin Lip Solutions scented with MMS Coconut FO… packaged in push up or twist up tubes so fingers don’t get greasy. S’wonderful!
