Tangerine Milk Lotion

I’m super excited to combine our awesome Tangerine Butter with our Milk Protein to make a luscious lotion fit for a queen!

The scent of the Tangerine Butter is just dreamy – so sweet and citrusy! I’ll add just a little bit of Tangerine Essential Oil to boost the fragrance.

Rounding out the formula, I’ve chosen to add a touch of Handcrafted Shea Butter and some Cyclomethicone to improve spreadability and lend a powdery feel. Our new Milk Protein will be another additive to make this lotion a true luxury. Of course, I’ll use an emulsifier, humectant, and preservative.

If you’d like to make this alongside me, come to my workroom and gather up some supplies!

Instructions

Weigh water, Tangerine Butter, Handcrafted Shea Butter, Emulsifying Wax, and Glycerin into a microwave-safe container. Heat gently, using short time bursts, until all oils are melted.

Using a stick blender, blend to create the emulsion. Don’t skimp on blending time; several minutes of blending is a good thing in lotion making. It gives all the molecules time to become fully emulsified.

Check the mixture’s temperature. Set it aside to cool below 120ºF.

Once the mixture has cooled sufficiently, add the Cyclomethicone, Milk Protein, Liquid Germall Plus, and Tangerine Essential Oil. Mix well, either using the stick blender or by hand.

Pour into bottles and allow the lotion to cool completely before putting on caps. Label and enjoy!

Notes

The spreadability is almost unbelievable with this lotion, thanks to the Cyclomethicone. It leaves behind a delightful powdery feel that is not greasy at all. I like it a lot!

The tangerine scent is just right. I’m glad I went ahead and added the Tangerine Essential Oil. It wasn’t much, but it definitely made the scent pop.

I was a bit disappointed that my Tangerine Butter’s color had faded, and along with it, some of the natural fragrance. That is because of UV light exposure. Sure enough, my oils and butters used to sit on an open shelf before I got cabinets in which to store them. I’m glad to know that even though the color faded, the Tangerine Butter is good to go!
