I have a few fragrance oils that I have been asked to describe many times while helping customers over the phone. I thought I would take today to describe these fragrances and tell you more about these neat fragrances!

Punch Party Fragrance Oil: Many times we look for tropical scents to bring the fun of summer into our body care products year round. Punch Party is a fantastic tropical blend and even can help chase away the winter blues that will be headed our way soon. When I describe this fragrance, I tell the customers to think of a piña colada with faint notes of bananas, lemons and topping the piña colada off with a sweet red raspberry instead of the tradition maraschino cherry. Let me tell you, this fragrance is perfect for the young and the young at heart or any one who loves tropical scents.

Oceanus (type) Fragrance Oil: I think our Oceanus is a spectacular clean smell. Whenever I smell this, I imagine that I’m sitting near an ocean side cliff surrounded by evergreen trees, wild flowers and sweet berry bushes while the ocean wind whips past me. If you can’t tell, I have a very active imagination that may not be true. Wouldn’t you love to have this clean fresh scent fill your home instead of the harsh smells of cleaners?

Tahitian Flowers Fragrance Oil: If you are a gardener or know some one who is a gardener, this is a perfect fragrance for those who have their own special collection of flowers. If you are familiar with the scent of Southern Gardenia or the scent of the Northern Lilac, then you will feel as if these flowers have taken a magical journey to the tropical islands of Tahiti and blended with a faint tang of tropical fruits in the gentle breeze. This is a staff favorite and for good reason! We can’t keep our hands off it!

Lotus: This fragrance smells amazing on both men and women alike. The fragrance seems to be built around the sturdy scent of jasmine and sweet tea roses, but don’t let the floral notes fool you. The base notes of sandalwood, patchouli, amber, vanilla and sweet musk are enough to make any man perfectly happy to wear this fragrance and the light citrus ties this fragrance all together. This would be excellent for a his and hers massage cream or even as a theme scent for a newly-wed gift basket. Do be warned, I’ve been told this is up in the ranks of sensual fragrances!

Starfruit: Yummy! This fragrance always makes me feel like I’m hungry again. (Even if I just ate a little while ago. Or it that because I’m still burning most of the food I eat?) This is an amazing cross of scents, northern fruits crossed with tropical fruits and I think it takes the best from both worlds! Sweet peaches and green apples from the first frost harvest combined with the a perfect starfruit, freshly picked oranges and tangy grapefruit. The best way to tie these two sides of the world together is with lilies and green herbal tea. What could be better than the joining of these scents into one special fragrance?

Enjoy!

I struggled making the blend because I wanted some spice to the scent, but I wanted some sweet uplifting notes too.

Collect needed supplies:
Baking Soda
Citric Acid
Cornstarch
Lemon Yellow Dry Color
Purple Raspberry Dry Color
Cinnamon Bear Fragrance Oil
Small spray bottle
.15 cc scoops
Small Clear Gusseted Bags
Small Transfer Pipettes
Scale
Mixing Bowl or heavy duty plastic zip bags
Ribbon (I used yarn)
Black Permanent Marker
Water

Fragrance Blend:
1 part Cinnamon Bear Fragrance Oil
3 parts Lemon Sugar type Fragrance Oil

Recipe in ounces:
12 ounces Baking Soda
6 ounces Citric Acid
2 ounces Cornstarch
0.03 ounces Cinnamon Bear Fragrance Oil
0.09 ounces Lemon Sugar type Fragrance Oil

Recipe in grams:
320 grams Baking Soda
170 grams Citric Acid
57 grams Cornstarch
0.8 grams Cinnamon Bear Fragrance Oil
2.5 grams Lemon Sugar Fragrance Oil

Color Spray:
0.15 cc Purple Raspberry Dry Color
0.15 cc Lemon Yellow Dry Color
Water to top off the spray bottle

Weigh the dry ingredients into the mixing bowl or bag and mix gently. Add the fragrance oils and mix well to break up all the clumps. Set aside while mixing color spray. Add dry color to the empty spray bottle and top off with water. Cap the bottle and shake until mixed. Don’t worry that the bottle looks like it is filled with a red color. It will be orange when you spray.

Gently spray the dry ingredients with the color spray about two to four times and then mix. Repeat until the dry ingredients all have a light orange color. I used 45 sprays of color. Set the mixture aside while you prepare the gusseted bags.

Draw a face for your pumpkin on the lower third of the bag. Triangle eyes, crooked teeth, big smiles, crazy eyes, small noses, you name it. Fill your bag with the bath fizzies and tie closed with a ribbon. These adorable bags of bath fizzies are now ready to give away! Can’t you just see a cute little stack of bath fizzy pumpkins sitting on the bathroom counter that are ready to be used?

Notes:
This fragrance blend has some spice notes with sweetness. As one of the guys on staff described this blend, “It has a tad bit of chocolate and caramel swirl with Atomic Fireballs and Jolly Ranchers!” Whatever they say, this fragrance blend is delicious, since everyone agreed that it smelled like candy. Just what I was aiming for!

If you want a darker orange color, double or triple the dry colors when adding to the bottle and then top off with water. This will make the color stronger.

Change to color to green and you could have Frankenstein. You can also make the Magic Color Bath Fizzies and make ghosts! Let your imagination run wild and play with various Halloween creatures!

Last week I started my Cyclomethicone Testing and I told you I would continue to post my results as I tested.

Today, I tested Earth, Plumberry Spice, Rose, Soothing Chamomile, Toasted Coconut, and Tahitian Vanilla Fragrance Oils. Plumberry Spice and Tahitian Vanilla Fragrance Oils were not compatible as the fragrance remained in beads and did not disperse at all. Soothing Chamomile has a faint cloudy appearance, and therefore is not compatible with Cyclomethicone.

I love creating dry oil sprays using Cyclomethicone, but as I mentioned when I made the Monster Away Spray, unfortunately not every fragrance is compatible with Cyclomethicone. Since some of us would rather know the compatibility up front rather than test, I will be testing for you. After I find the results, I will post them here on the blog and in the catalog as well.

A few weeks ago I made tests with Satsuma, Pluot, Green Tea, Peach, Hinoki Wood and Cherry Blossom Fragrance Oils. Hinoki Wood was slightly cloudy, so if you want a clear mixture, this is not the fragrance for you. The rest of the fragrances were compatible and crystal clear.

Today, I tested Acai & Mangosteen, Baby Powder, Blackberry Sage, Champagne Sugar, and Cherry Blossom & Kiwi Fragrance Oils. Baby Powder and Blackberry Sage Fragrance Oils were not compatible as the fragrance remained in beads and did not disperse at all. Cherry Blossom & Kiwi has a faint tan color, but it was perfectly compatible with the Cyclomethicone.

Keep an eye out every week for results of more Cyclomethicone Testing results. Have any requests for me to test first? Let me know and I will try to test those requested fragrances first!

Enjoy!

I’m not sure if you are familiar with Rooibos Tea also known as Red Tea, but ever since I discovered this fantastic tea, I’ve added it to my collection of teas to drink. My favorite Rooibos Tea is the LIPTON Red Tea with Harvest Strawberry and Passionfruit in the Pyramid Tea Bags. I love the faint strawberry taste of this specific tea.

What is Rooibos Tea?

Rooibos Tea is pronounced “roy-bos”. This herbal tea is made from the leaves of the Red Bush, scientific name Aspalathus linearis. After the leaves are harvested, they are typically oxidized to produce the distinctive reddish-brown color of Rooibos and enhances the flavor. There is also a production that doesn’t oxidize the leaves which produces the malty tasting Green Rooibos. It grows in the Cedarberg mountain range of the Western Cape Province in South Africa.

How is Rooibos Tea consumed?

Typically, in South Africa, Rooibos Tea is commonly drunk with milk and sugar, but most other regions drink Rooibos Tea without a sweetener since the tea is naturally sweet. Rooibos is prepared just like black tea, but it does not become bitter when steeped for a long time, which black tea can become bitter after steeping for a long time. Rooibos Tea is best for the first steeping, since after the first steeping, it dramatically loses its flavor.

What does Rooibos Tea taste like?

If you get an unflavored Rooibos Tea you will taste a fruity tea with a sweet note. I’ve also discovered other Rooibos teas that have vanilla, ginger, mint, orange, raspberry, blueberry and many other possible flavors added to the tea (not all to the same tea!) I’m fairly sure my mom would enjoy a Vanilla Rooibos Tea since she loves vanilla.

Our Rooibos Tea Fragrance Oil is a fantastic replication of the amazing aromas of unflavored Rooibos Tea. This fragrance oil smells citrusy and honey like with a faint floral note all standing on a vanilla base. This is a perfect fragrance for any Rooibos Tea fan you know. Even if you haven’t ever had Rooibos Tea before, I’m sure you will find a new favorite if you like vanilla blends.

I’ve received permission to send samples of the Rooibos Tea Fragrance Oil along with samples of our bases for your testing purposes. I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions of this fragrance. I hope you enjoy this fragrance as much as I do.

Cheers!
