Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

worldMartin Luther King Jr. Day (also known as Civil Rights day) is observed on the third Monday in January. That happens to be today! One of my favorite quotes by Martin Luther King Jr. is  “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?’”  This quote really resonates with me because it asks to look beyond ourselves and look at our fellow humans. It inspires the question of “Can I do more to help my neighbors? My community?”

In my neighborhood lives an elderly woman who is very generous. She regularly picks up mail for those away, makes meals for those in need, bakes goodies to share and babysits children after school. She is amazing and quite the inspiration. She has spent her entire adult life looking beyond herself and her family. This woman is a steward for our community and an excellent role model. Can I say I want to be like her when I grow up? bow What are different ways you help serve your community?

Before I forget, I have some important announcements to make. Because today is a Federal holiday, the post office is closed. There will be no deliveries today from the post office. UPS is open. They will be making deliveries so you may have a package delivered today by UPS. We are open and working on shipping out all packages shipping via UPS. All USPS packages will ship tomorrow. Cheers!

Planning for Christmas!

Planning for Christmas!
Planning for Christmas!

Today I wanted to share some things you need to know for the remainder of 2015. Christmas is right around the corner and packages are shipping all around the United States and around the world. If you are waiting for a package to arrive, may I suggest signing up for UPS MyChoice? It is a free service offered by UPS. Any time a package is shipped to your address they will let you know via email giving you a tracking number and a estimated time of delivery. This is a perfect way to outsmart those porch package thieves. You know when to expect your UPS man. Should you not be home, talk with a neighbor. Cookies are often great bribery for the neighborhoods kids to make sure your package arrives safely. wink2

Also be aware that Friday is the last day to pick up a Will Call order. It is also the last day our phones will be available. If you need to place an order over the phone, Friday is the last day to do it. Everything after Friday will need to be done online.

Next week on December 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, we will have a partial crew on hand to process and ship orders that have come in. Want your order in time for Christmas? December 18th is the last day to ship 3 Day Select packages. December 22nd is the last day for 2nd Day Air packages and December 23 is the last day for packages shipped Next Day Air.

We will also have a partial crew December 28th, 29th and 30th. We will spend those days processing and shipping online orders. Our phones and full staff will be back January 4th ready to serve all your needs! We hope you have wonderful holidays and an awesome break!

New Stickers for Boxing Day

This is a very busy week for us and I just wanted to give a reminder that Boxing Day is not far away! To help give inspiration, MMS is adding a red label to every box we ship reminding all recipients to participate in this wonderful holiday. These stickers will ask everyone to: “Keep this box for Boxing Day, December 26.”

This year Boxing Day will not only be a good time to replace the small housewares I have found for our home but also a time to give life to things I am no longer using. My coat closet needs some reducing, as does my storage room. I would like to know how I accumulated so many pillow cases! The linen cupboard is also on my list and the garage could use a bit of a reduce/reuse/recycle organization. I know the items I gift to charity will help my community because these things have usable life still in them and I don’t need so many things around the house.

Would you save your MMS boxes for this event?

Cheers!
Tina

Planning for the Thanksgiving Holiday

Thanksgiving2Thanksgiving is just next week and I am so excited. While I am excited for the turkey and anxiously awaiting the fluffy stuffing, I am really looking forward to the pie. As you doing your shopping this weekend, I want you to keep an eye out for fresh pumpkins. Next week I will show you how to make pumpkin pie leather. Whether you plan on making your own pie or eating someone else’s, if pumpkin pie is a family favorite you will want to make some pumpkin pie leather.

It is simple and the rewards are great. The resulting leather is healthful, yummy and feeds more than the body. While you can use canned pumpkin, I think you will like the fresh stuff better. Remember, you can even roast the seeds. My sister made some roasted pumpkin seeds with cinnamon and sugar. Wow! Those things are amazing.

Next week we will have a number of posts that are fun and laid back. Stop in. We will have some yummy recipes and some great laughs!

See you soon!

CalendarWe have gotten some wonderful submissions of products for our 2016 Calendar Contest and along the way, we’ve been asked questions about the contest. Here are the Frequently Asked Questions as well as a little bit of news about the 2016 Calendar Contest.

Q: Will I retain the copyright for my image(s)?
A: Yes! We ask that you grant us exclusive license for a calendar product. This means that you will not license these photographs for another calendar product, regardless of form displayed.

Q: What kind of photographs are you looking for?
A: Photographs of finished products, raw materials or processes! We are looking for crisp, clear images without distracting labels or watermarks.

Q: Will I have the opportunity to provide my contact information, website or e-mail with my photo?
A: Absolutely! You can provide any contact information you would like to give. It could be a website, company name, e-mail, phone number or even social media pages.

Q: Can I send you a picture of products that someone else has made?
A: No. You must be the owner of products in the photographs. Private label products may be considered on a case by case basis.

Now for the little bit of news! We have had so many wonderful submissions already that we have decided to print a weekly calendar (think weekly planner/organizer)!
