2018 HSCG Conference, Here We Come! 6

I am so thrilled to tell you all that The Sage is going to be at the 2018 Handcrafted Soap and Cosmetic Guild Annual Conference. Andee and I will be flying out to Atlanta, Georgia the first week of May. The conference is May 3rd to May 5th with registration and seminars on May 2nd. Andee first attended the conference back in 2010. This will be my very first time attending the conference and I am so excited! Whether you are new to the soaping world or you are an experienced soap maker, the HSCG Conference is perfect for any person with a love of making their own soaps and cosmetics.I am so excited to meet all of you adventurous makers out there and finally put some faces to names.

This year Andee will be teaching her own class, Making Magic Happen with Scent Blending. It will be on May 2nd from 10 AM to 3 PM. For this class, you will receive a kit of fragrances and everything you may need to start making your own magical blends. I will be there to help her and make sure everything is running smoothly.  It is not too late to register for her class, so get over to the HSCG website and register now!

I have been here in Utah all of my life, the farthest east or south I have been is parts of Colorado. So going to Georgia is going to be quite the adventure for me! I have flown before, but I was very young and I slept the whole time so I don’t really remember it. I’ll admit that I am really nervous about the flight. From Utah to Georgia is about 4 hours, which is not too bad. I will be traveling with my husband, who has never flown before, and Andee who is an experienced flyer. Do you guys have any tips for those of us who are new to flying? Let me know in the comments below. I would appreciate it very much. Also, I would like to know, are you going to the HSCG conference? If so, let me know because I would love to meet you and say hello!

WooooHoooo! You are gonna love conference! Last year was my first time and it was so much fun!

As a seasoned flyer myself here are some tips.

    1. To the airport wear easy slip off shoes for TSA. After the checkpoint put on some sneakers. You never know if your gate will change and you need to book it on the other side

    2. Bring a travel backpack. Pack it with snacks (get drinks at the airport), notebook & pens games, books, a tablet or computer. Pretty much pack yourself as if your keeping a child entertained. If you get cold bring a jacket or blanket for the plane.

    3. Once your on the plane start chewing a piece of gum. It will help while the plane is taking off. Also helps when the plane is reaching your destination.

    4. If you are checking a bag that looks like everyone else’s tie a colorful piece of fabric on the handle so you can spot it faster.

    5. Have fun!

    See you guys soon!!!

      Nikki,
Thanks for the tips! A couple of people have told me about bringing gum so I will definitely make sure to bring some. I can’t wait!
      Cheers,

    Hi Katie,
Take some good snacks; airplane food Is iffy at best. Drink lots of water on the plane; the air is dry. Consider wearing compression hose. Your legs will feel better and can help prevent DVT’s. Pay attention to the flight attendant’s briefing. Bring a little pack of sanitizing wipes to wipe the tray table and seat arms. (I’m not paranoid, I’m a nurse!) Have a great time!

For the plane take a back pack with a light blanket or cardigan and if you have room a little travel pillow is really nice (Ross sells the same ones as the airport does for a fraction of the price), as planes are frequently cold. Don’t forget a good multi device portable charger and cords; a glass case keeps them together and organized and can slip into your back pack and purse easily.
Take an empty water bottle. You can fill it once you are through security. It is also nice to fill with ice at the hotel and have with you during your trip.
I like to make sure I have a small lotion and having it scented with lavender can be soothing and relax you if you like it, and a lip balm inside my back pack along with a good book or kindle loaded also with music and a comfortable set of earphones. That way you have something to distract you if you are nervous and the earphones they give you (if they even do) are notoriously unreliable.
If you remember that excitement and fear; feel exactly the same in your body, then you can decide to always recognize that feeling as excitement and you will have a really fun experience!
